Humans have had a long standing contentious relationship with bogs due to fear of parasites, aeriform gasses, witches, bugs, disease, and monsters; evils of all kinds have haunted and swallowed humans from the uncanny bog. Yet, sphagnum bogs are the most valuable carbon sinks on the planet, and attitudes towards them desperately need to change as they are currently being drained and mined to extinction. Bogscapes is a collection about both human and bog protection, the patterns are created from microscopic images of human macrophage (white blood) cells and woven on the jacquard loom to resemble peatlands.

Textile Noise Deceleration Prototypes, wool & latex, 2020.
Quietudes is an investigation into the future of arctic textiles, exploring the visual and auditory sensory of the icy North. Textiles to conjure the sense of silence and comfort that seeps into the nervous system when one stands in hushed natural spaces. These textiles are intended to shield oneself from human noise pollution while simultaneously moving away from the obnoxious swishing and crackling of contemporary outdoor gear (wear); to incorporate the quiet of nature into a human way of being in the world.
